Mingenew Dark Sky Stargazing Night

Join us 13 April for an enchanting evening under the stars! The Mingenew Dark Sky Stargazing Night is part of the Eclipse Discovery Tour, a series of stargazing events around Western Australia celebrating the Ningaloo Total Solar Eclipse.

What is involved?

6:30pm: Welcome at the Mingenew Recreation Centre.
6:45pm: Eclipse Discovery Tour Presentation.

  • Learn about the Total Solar Eclipse.
  • Discover why Western Australia is a world-class dark sky tourism destination.
  • Find out all about WA’s amazing space science projects.

7:30pm: Spectacular green laser pointer tour of Southern Hemisphere constellations on Mingenew Hockey Oval.
7:45pm: Viewing through telescopes. See the Milky Way, Southern Cross, the Magellanic Clouds, Star Clusters and more.
9:00pm: Event End.

How do I attend?

This is a FREE event. You can reserve a spot here, or turn up on the night.

Is there food and drink available?

There will be a free sausage sizzle for those attending, however feel free to pack your own picnic! Alternatively you can head over for a hearty pub feed at the Mingenew Hotel.

What do I bring?

Bring your own binoculars and/or telescope, chairs, picnic rug, torches, warm clothes, fly net, insect repellent, drinks and additional food. There will also be telescopes available for visitors to view through.

Where do I stay?

Stay at one of the Mid West’s most iconic pubs, the Mingenew Hotel, or the welcoming and friendly Mingenew Spring Caravan Park. Alternatively just outside of town, you can camp at Coalseam Conservation Park, Enanty Barn or Yandanooka Hall. Please note you must be self-contained for these camping sites.

When can I see the Solar Eclipse?

The Solar Eclipse is occurring the following week after this event, on 20 April. You can find out more here.

Where else can I stargaze?

Just about anywhere in our Shire makes for a great stargazing site, however we recommend you check out Yandanooka Siding and Coalseam National Park if you want to get out your telescope or do some astrophotography.
