COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Shire of Mingenew is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced community development professional to support and promote community-led initiatives and delivery of projects and events that align with the Shire’s Strategic Community Plan.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years’ experience in a community development role with complementary tertiary qualifications and local government background. However, training and support may be provided where transferable skills and a passion for community development can be demonstrated.

The role is offered as a permanent, full-time position. Additionally, there may be times when attendance at events and functions outside of ordinary hours is required, and we offer the flexibility to negotiate hours or overtime.

The Shire offers a competitive remuneration (of up to base salary of $80,000 per annum, negotiated dependent on qualifications and experience), with up to 5% matching super contributions by Council, subsidised accommodation (if required), communication allowance and a ‘Loyalty Incentive’ payment after 12 months continuous service (higher rate paid for those living local). Up to $1,000 may also be paid for relocation expenses.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in a local government community development role or a similar role with transitional skills
  • Excellent public relations skills, including problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and attract external funding and managing project financials, including managing budgeting and reporting requirements
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to use Microsoft Office programs e.g. Excel, Word and Outlook

Desirable

  • Hold or be substantially advanced in studies towards a tertiary qualification in a relevant field
  • Experience in community engagement, regional economic development and building stakeholder relationships
  • Experience in marketing and/or social media management
  • Knowledge of local area or familiarity working with rural communities
  • Sound knowledge of local government statutory requirements, processes and principles

Due to the nature of the role, it is an inherent requirement that a Working with Children Check is obtained upon commencement, and the employee maintains a current and valid Driver’s Licence (minimum “C” Class).

SENIOR FINANCE OFFICER

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY (RE-ADVERTISED)

The Shire of Mingenew is seeking an energetic, personable and self-motivated professional to provide accurate and efficient finance support in maintaining and reporting on the Shire’s finance and records management systems.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience in a finance role with complementary tertiary qualifications and local government background. However, training and support may be provided where transferable skills and showing initiative in a new role can be demonstrated.

The role is offered as full-time position but part-time, flexible working arrangements may be considered, with expected ordinary hours of at least 32 hours per week.

The Shire offers a competitive remuneration (base salary up to $80,000 pro rata, negotiated dependent on qualifications and experience), with up to 5% matching super contributions by Council, subsidised accommodation (if required), communication allowance and a ‘Loyalty Incentive’ payment after 12 months continuous service (higher rate paid for those living local). Up to $1,000 may also be paid for relocation expenses.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a finance role (preferably within local government)
  • Tertiary qualification in Bookkeeping or similar
  • Well-developed written communication and computer skills
  • Understanding of record management requirements (preferably within local government)
  • Ability to work independently, and in a team environment

The Shire of Mingenew is looking to establish a Casual Pool of appropriately skilled and experienced individuals that can provide resourcing support to the Shire, as required. The Pool aims to ensure the Shire can respond appropriately to temporary increased service demands, coverage for staff absences or any other temporary staffing needs.
