The Shire of Mingenew has long recognised that supporting community health and wellbeing is a core component of effective local government. Public health priorities are already embedded throughout the Shire’s existing Strategic Community Plan, Corporate Business Plan and operational activities, with a strong focus on creating a safe, connected, active and resilient community.

This Public Health Plan provides an opportunity to consolidate these existing commitments into a coordinated public health framework, reaffirming Council’s position and ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes for the Mingenew community. The Plan does not represent a new direction for the Shire, but rather strengthens the alignment between existing strategies, services, infrastructure and partnerships that contribute to positive public health outcomes.

Each local government in Western Australia is required under the Public Health Act 2016 to prepare and implement a Public Health Plan that promotes, protects and enhances the health, wellbeing and safety of its community. Local Public Health Plans must also align with the objectives and priorities of the State Public Health Plan for Western Australia 2025–2030. By integrating the outcomes and strategies of this Public Health Plan into the Shire’s Strategic Community Plan and broader Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework, the Shire will ensure public health remains a key consideration in decision-making and continues to respond to the changing needs and demographics of the local community.
