WORLD-CLASS STARGAZING SITES

It’s true that just about anywhere in our Shire makes for a great stargazing site, our low levels of light pollution and big, clear skies make sure of that. Even so, there are a couple of places we recommend you check out if you want to get out your telescope or do some astrophotography.

With superb open areas allowing for viewing in all directions, plenty of parking away from traffic and a custom-built viewing pad and outdoor planisphere, Yandanooka is set up for both casual viewing and serious astrophotography and astronomy.

If the wildflowers during the day aren’t enough to take your breath away, you should see Coalseam by night. Bring a torch and see this iconic daytime destination from another point of view.

Don’t want to travel that far from town? Trundle up to the hockey oval and enjoy a superb stargazing site right on the edge of town.

WHERE TO STAY

Mingenew is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. The days are bright and blue and our night skies are big and brilliant. The favourite places for visitors staying in town are the Mingenew Spring Caravan Park and Mingenew Hotel Motel. The Park caters for all types of visitors, vehicles and campers. There are also additional camping areas outside of town for short stays, as long as you are self-contained. For general visitor information, we also suggest you download this useful handout and our directory map.

Located in the centre of town on Midlands Road is the recently renovated Mingenew Hotel. Sit back, relax and enjoy a refreshing drink at one of the Mid West’s most iconic pubs.
